We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher who is committed to advancing the fields of mitochondrial biology and innate immunity. The successful candidate will join a dynamic research environment in the modern and vibrant city of Düsseldorf.

Our research group investigates how mitochondria shape human disease and aging. Recent findings have highlighted mitochondria as key regulators of innate immunity, placing mitochondrial DNA at the center of immune control. We aim to understand how mtDNA damage acquired in the liver affects liver physiology and systemic homeostasis. To this end, our laboratory applies complementary animal and cell-based models to uncover mechanisms linking mitochondrial function to cellular fitness.

The position is available from spring 2026. Funding is secured for an initial period of three years. Compensation is based on TV-L13. For more information about the position or our research, please contact Dr. David Pla Martín.

Key requirements

• PhD (or equivalent) in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, physiology, biomedicine, or a related discipline, awarded within the past 2–4 years.
• Strong research track record, including peer-reviewed publications.
• Valid certification for work with laboratory animals (FELASA B or equivalent).
• Prior experience in mitochondrial biology and histology is highly advantageous.
• Ability to work scientifically independently.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English. German language skills are not required but are an advantage.
