The British Embassy in Berlin is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. The Embassy is responsible for managing the UKs relationship with Germany, one of the UKs most important strategic relationships internationally, including on trade, foreign policy, science and innovation.

We are now looking for an Economic Growth and Projects Officer based in Berlin. The successful candidate will join the Embassy at an exciting time for the UK-Germany relationship, following the signing of the Kensington Treaty, which is intensifying collaboration across economic issues.

Main Purpose of Role:

This role is central to the Embassys objective of delivering economic growth for the UK through the UKs bilateral relationship with Germany. The jobholder will help drive efforts to realise opportunities for UK growth through the relationship with Germany, one of the UKs most important economic partners.

The Economic Growth and Projects Officer will serve as Secretariat for the Germany Network Growth Board, which oversees delivery of the Growth Plan and related projects. The role will involve monitoring delivery, reporting on progress, collaborating with colleagues across Germany to unblock obstacles, and briefing and advising senior colleagues on engagement with German counterparts.

The jobholder will also work on economic growth-related projects with specific deliverables. This may include designing and implementing engagement strategies, supporting workstreams linked to economic growth, building relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and identifying developments of interest to colleagues in Berlin, London and across the wider Germany network. Travel within Germany and, on occasion, internationally, including to the UK may be required.

Roles and responsibilities:

The successful candidate will:

Support the Germany Network to achieve its growth objective, working closely with economic, political, business and trade colleagues;

Provide the Secretariat for the Germany Network Growth Board, which oversees delivery of the Growth Mission in Germany;

Plan and deliver events at the Embassy in support of growth objectives;

Support high-level visits to Germany by UK ministers and senior officials;

Build and maintain a network of contacts in ministries, parliament, think tanks, industry and academia in Berlin and across Germany;

Maintain relationships with stakeholders in London, including HM Treasury, the Department for Business and Trade, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, industry groups in the UK and Germany, and colleagues across wider Embassy teams;

Cover a portfolio of other policy issues, including work and pensions, housing and education;

Contribute to achieving the wider objectives of the British Governments Germany network, including by fostering an inclusive and positive working environment.
