Training in the higher fire department (m/f/d)

We are looking for you to join the Fire Department of the State Capital of Stuttgart. The apprenticeship position is available starting April 1, 2027, on a full-time basis and is a fixed-term position ending March 31, 2029.

Stuttgart by profession

The Fire Department employs approximately 720 full-time and over 1,900 volunteer firefighters. They stand by the citizens in all emergencies to ensure that fire and disaster protection in Stuttgart is maintained around the clock. The training qualifies officers to lead a team at a fire station and to perform specialized duties in one of the Fire Departments specialized divisions.

Training that inspires you

You will complete the 24-month training program as a probationary civil servant, including basic firefighting training, culminating in a career examination for the higher firefighting service (in accordance with APrOFw gD)

During the practical training phases, you will be assigned to various fire departments throughout Germany

You will participate in drills and emergency responses

You will be qualified to independently perform leadership duties in the senior fire service

Your profile that suits us

Successful completion of a diploma or bachelors degree program (in accordance with Section 15(1)(2) of the Baden-Württemberg State Civil Service Act) in a technical, scientific, or other field suitable for fire service (proof of successful completion must be submitted no later than October 31, 2026)

Fulfilment of the personal requirements for appointment as a civil servant

Unrestricted medical fitness for firefighting service, including the ability to wear respiratory protective equipment

Class B drivers license

Proof of measles vaccination is required (for those born in 1971 or later)

Proof of swimming proficiency (no older than 3 months)

The selection process for the career training program in the senior fire service is a multi-stage process. Please note that proof of having successfully passed the physical fitness test and the swimming proficiency test must already be available at the time of application. The next available physical fitness test will take place on September 15, 2026, and September 16, 2026. Applicants must register for one of these dates on their own.
