PC4 Hydro South – Civil Operations and Maintenance Engineer

The purpose of the role is to provide technical support within a small team responsible for the routine inspection, operation and maintenance of our power stations, water catchment areas and associated infrastructure.

This role is based at Dolgarrog Power Station for Hydro South.

PC4 – Permanent Role

Closing Date: 24 July 2026

About the Role

The role involves maintenance, refurbishment and repair of concrete structures, dams, aqueducts, pipelines and buildings, as well as optimisation of our water catchment areas through increased water storage, operational adjustments and water flow forecasting to maximise efficiency and commercial performance.

You will be responsible for creating, planning, managing and delivering work packages, including planned and unplanned outage work, ensuring all activities are carried out safely. You will need to balance and prioritise competing demands whilst placing safety first, ensuring maintenance is completed on time and within budget.

The role also involves supporting wider UK hydro plant cluster objectives, including providing data submissions to demonstrate compliance with consents, permits and international standards.

You will provide technical knowledge and expertise, ensuring risk-based maintenance techniques are applied to deliver safe, flexible and reliable plant operations.

You will provide a high level of asset-specific technical knowledge and competence to the Operations and Maintenance team, supporting your Team Leader and colleagues in delivering challenging operational, technical and commercial objectives.

In addition to carrying out maintenance activities, you will manage contractors delivering maintenance work. You will plan and control your own work and oversee the work undertaken by contractors working on site.

Job Requirements and Experience

HNC qualification (or equivalent experience) in a technical engineering discipline.

Ability to plan and coordinate your own work, and support the coordination of work undertaken by a small team within a safety-critical environment.

Experience in a process or engineering environment, ideally involving power generation or civil engineering, with a strong commitment to safety.

Ability to act as a Contract Manager, developing productive working relationships with contract partners and supporting the achievement of effective commercial outcomes.

Experience in contract management, including developing specifications, drawings, technical requirements and acceptance criteria.

Ability to manage costs effectively, ensuring maintenance expenditure remains within approved budgets and plans.

A full, current driving licence is required due to the nature of the role and travel between sites.

Additional Information

As the business operates 24 hours a day, this role may occasionally require work outside core hours to support safe and efficient operations.
